Amoako Boafo, a Ghanian painter and muralist, first caught the art world’s attention after being discovered on Instagram by American painter Kehinde Wiley, leading to his first US solo exhibition in 2019.
Since then, Boafo’s vivid portraits exploring black identity, inspired by his upbringing, have continued to increase in value at auctions around the world, despite the coronavirus pandemic. Already well on his way to art stardom, Boafo was catapulted into the mainstream limelight after meeting Dior’s Creative Director of menswear, Kim Jones, at Art Basel Miami in December last year, leading to a much lauded collaboration which saw Boafo’s work embellished on pieces in Kim’s most recent menswear collection.
